Derek is a writer & policy advisor based in Victoria, British Columbia 

I've had a varied career path, including work in finance, manufacturing, healthcare, technology, and the British Columbia Public Service. 

Currently, I work a 9-5 at the Ministry of Finance in the Financial and Corporate Sector Policy branch, developing and implementing new legislation and regulations for the British Columbia real estate and securities markets. 

In addition to my public policy work, I occasionally take on marketing communications projects. Because of my background, education, and training, I've specialized in financial writing. 

I hold a Master's in Public Administration and honours degrees in philosophy and marketing. Over the past decade, I have also completed many courses and certificates.

My writing and stories housed on this site are a collection of my thoughts, perspectives, and exploration of paradoxes and real life. I'm curious about how to live a good life and what it means to live a good life.
