About my professional background:
Currently, I'm a senior policy and legislative analyst in the Financial and Corporate Sector Policy Branch at the Ministry of Finance working primarily on real estate policy, legislation, and regulation for the province of British Columbia, Canada.
Generally, I work on large-scale legislative and regulatory initiatives with a significant amount of technical complexity (e.g., developing new policy, Acts, and regulations).
Over the past several years, I've been directly involved in the development of:
- the Homebuyer Protection Period Regulation 🏡
- technical amendments to the Land Owner Transparency Act 🔎
- the Anti-Racism Data Act 📊
- Governing in the Public Interest, a BC-wide governance training program for BC government appointees 📑
- BC's international education policy and framework 🎓
- significant amendments to the Financial Institutions Act and Credit Union Corporation Act 💸
- change management strategy and planning at the Ministry of Children and Family Development
- an administrative penalties framework at the Residential Tenancy Branch
I've also been responsible for developing, reviewing, and approving ministry and crown corporation strategic plans, annual reports, and mandate letters. I gained this experience while working at the Crown Agencies and Board Resourcing Office (CABRO).
Prior to returning to government, I worked at Central 1 Credit Union, the BC credit union system's trade organization. While at Central 1, I supported the c-suite and broader credit union c-suite on the Financial Institutions Act and Credit Union Corporation Act Review. In addition to policy analysis and project management, I met with Members of the Legislative Assembly to promote credit union interests.
I've also worked in healthcare consulting, at a Fortune 500, and spent a brief amount of time at a tech startup. I held several different job titles while working at these places including project manager, marketing strategist, and content marketer. Many years ago, I was employed as a writer at a technology and manufacturing company.
When I have time, I consult on marketing communications projects for a number of different clients. Often, this work includes copywriting, content development, and marketing strategy/planning.
As projects dictate, I collaborate with other writers, graphic designers, and consultants.
I hold a Master of Public Administration from the University of Victoria as well as honours degrees in philosophy and marketing. Currently, I'm finishing up a diploma in land economics at the University of British Columbia. I also recently completed the Canadian Securities Course.
I've completed several certificates, courses, and programs to enhance my financial, project management, and technical skills and continue to push myself to expand my skillset. Lately, I've been very interested in futures thinking and forecasting.
